Young Medicos Organization (YMO) 1971

The Birth of Young Medicos Organization 1957: YMO was a student organization in Dow Medical College that was formed for the purpose of working for the students of Dow and instilling in them a sense of community service. With time it became a “political organization” fielding candidates for the cabinet of Dow Medical College Students’ Union. The Founder Patron of the organization was Late Surgeon Commander Jelal M. Shah. Dr. Shah was of Iranian origin and was the Principal of Grant Medical College Bombay and subsequently Inspector General of Civil Hospitals of undivided India. He lead the inspection team that came over from Bombay and granted and proposed the main building of DMC in 1944. He visited the college on several occasions inaugurating functions and advising medical students. (Source Questar published by YMO in September 1971.The souvenir was given to me from the collection of Dr. Hamid Zaki Syed, Past President of DMCSU 1975-76)
