  3. I am Dr S M Ahsan Shah. I have a sad information to share for updating the Dow 1982 Alumini list. Dr Muhammad Sami Ur Rahman is no more with us. He bade farewell to this world somewhere around 1996 at a very young age. We were school mates from 5th grade onwards at the Bahadur Yar Jung High School Karachi. I remember he stood 3rd in the annual exam of class 5th while I was 1st. On one of those good old days he caught me in the school during break and roughed me up saying he would soon beat me in the academic race !!!
In 6th grade he inched to 2nd position and in 7th both of us were 1st while in the 8th grade he clinched the 1st position pushing me to 2nd place in the class. From those days we became very good friends. For the FSc he joined Adamjee Sc College while I went to Government Degree College Nazimabad, but always kept in touch. At Dow, Sami was roll no 247 while mine was 391 (if I remember correctly) in the First yr class of ’75.
Sami used to smoke during DMC days and I loved to snatch and crush his cigarettes only to tease him for an enjoyment.
He was for sure a genius. In the Urdu and Islamyat papers during school and FSc exams Sami used to write Urdu text at an unusually high speed without putting the dots in letters and the slashes of “Kaaf” and “Gaaf”. And, amazingly, he put the dots and strokes later on without a miss!!
I pray for his eternal peace.
