Department of Hygiene has a long tradition of field visits to areas of Public Health interest. It must have started in the 1950’s and continued to the late 1970’s (not sure when the last Hygiene trip was) but there were none in 1990 per Dr. Masroor Khan (Dowites 1990).  Professor M.A. Ansari was the Head of Hygiene Department and his routine was to organize a trip of the entire fourth year MBBS class to all the medical schools of Pakistan on the railroad (Liaquat, Nishtar, KE, FJ, and Khyber). Above is a trip to Haleji Lake in the Thatta District Sindh. Haleji lake, partially natural and partially man made by the British is the largest bird sanctuary in Asia where migratory birds from Siberia find a place to stay in winters.
