“Dr. Mumtaz Maher is a visionary, a surgeon par excellence. The pioneer of minimal access surgery in Pakistan, Dr. Maher performed the country’s first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1991. Since then he has made his mark in the field of laparoscopic surgery by performing advanced procedures for the treatment of hernias, colorectal diseases and obesity.Over the years he has made significant surgical contributions to the diseases of the digestive tract, pancreas, obstructive jaundice and ulcerative colitis. Dr. Maher introduced the concept of speciality oriented patient care and developed clinics in breast, thyroid and colorectal surgery at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi.
