Elections to the Dow Medical College Students’ Union 1972.

Elections to the Dow Medical College Students’ Union (NSF) were always a serious as well as fun affair.
They were contested vigorously on a Party based system, just like in any country, and the parties themselves
were formed long ideological lines, right and left of the spectrum with some in the center. Later, regional
parties came into being and being small would align themselves with the major Parties.
In 1972 there was a contest between the panels of National Students Federation, Jamiat-e-Tulaba Islam, and
the centrist Young Medicos Organization. NSF won. Their panel is in the photo.
Tragically, 3 of the panel are no longer with us. Dr. Aftab Ahmed died in Lahore in 1977. Dr. Nazir Memon
passed away and Dr. Zaidi joined the Pakistan Army and rose to the rank of Brigadier and died of cancer.
Dr. Usman Sadiq and Dr. Arbab Rasool live in Pakistan. Dr. Walter Silviera lives in UK.
The information and tagging is courtesy of the following Dowites:  Dr. Hadi Zaidi, Dr. Ghazala Durrani and
Dr. Tariq Aslam.
