**The Dow Days Presents a Historic First:

The Oldest Surviving MBBS Examination Papers (1949)**

A Rare Academic Relic Unveiled During Dow Medical College’s 80th Anniversary Commemorative Month

As part of the 80th Anniversary of Dow Medical College (1945–2025)TheDowDays.com is honored to present one of the most significant academic artifacts in the institutional history of our alma mater: the oldest surviving First Professional MBBS examination papers from 1949.

For the first time, these original examination documents are being publicly displayed and digitally preserved. The collection includes the complete First Professional MBBS examination papers conducted in 1949, comprising:

  • Human Anatomy – Paper I
  • Human Anatomy – Paper II
  • Physiology – Paper I
  • Physiology – Paper II

These papers offer a rare and compelling window into the formative years of medical education at Dow, reflecting the academic rigor, curricular priorities, and pedagogical standards of the late 1940s—just a few years after the founding of the institution and in the early years of Pakistan’s medical education system.

This unveiling is part of Dow Commemorative Month, during which TheDowDays.com is showcasing, for the first time, a curated series of articles, artifacts, relics, rare photographs, and archival documents drawn from private collections and long-forgotten records. Each release is intended to preserve Dow’s legacy, celebrate its academic heritage, and reconnect alumni across generations with the intellectual foundations of their alma mater.

These 1949 examination papers stand not merely as historical documents, but as enduring symbols of Dow Medical College’s commitment to excellence, discipline, and scholarly tradition—values that continue to define Dow graduates across the globe.

We invite all Dow alumni, students, faculty, and friends to explore this remarkable archival release and to revisit the roots of medical education at Dow through the pages that once shaped its earliest physicians.

The Dow Days — Preserving the Past. Celebrating the Legacy. Inspiring the Future.
